How to Build Momentum towards a Nuclear Weapons Free World
On Wednesday 9th of December at 18.00-19.30.
Speakers:
Mr. Alyn Ware, winner of the Right Livelihood Award 2009.
Mr. Ware is known as one of the world’s most effective peaceworkers. This year he was awarded the Right Livelihood Award “for his effective and creative advocacy and initiatives over two decades to further peace education and to rid the world of nuclear weapons”. He currently sits as Vice-President of the International Peace Bureau and he is the international coordinator of Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament. Mr. Ware also led the efforts to implement the World Court ’s decision on the illegality of nuclear weapons. In a recent article he sees the Obama initiatives towards a nuclear weapons free world in a positive light.
Dr. Ira Helfand from the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN).
Dr. Helfand is a member of the National Board of Directors for Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) and the North American Vice-President of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW). He has spoken widely on the medical effects of nuclear war in the United States, the former Soviet Union, India, Pakistan, and France, and is a co-author of the study "Accidental Nuclear War - A Post-Cold War Assessment," which appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine in April, 1998 and of PSR's 2006 report, "The US and Nuclear Terrorism: Still Dangerously Unprepared".
The seminar will take place at Ingeniørenes Hus, “fest salen”, Kronprinsgaten 17, 0251 Oslo (next to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
